7 August 1972 Trooper Geoffrey Knipe 24, (4/7RDG) was killed when driving a Ferret Armoured Fighting Vehicle on the ring road in Armagh city. The vehicle was being stoned by a mob consisting mainly of children when a brick passed through the vision hatch, smashed the windscreen and hit him in the head fracturing his scull. When an ambulance arrived it was stoned as well. For
